A Sustainable Move

Anyone who has ever moved knows well that it is less than enjoyable. The wrapping, packing, tapping, and hauling; it’s a daunting process and one where you can’t help but feel wasteful. I’m currently in the process of moving from my apartment in Brooklyn, NY to a studio in Washington, DC. I want to make the move as sustainable as possible. In terms of packing, I searched high and low for reusable bins. There are many companies are out there, but unfortunately for me, currently there are no companies that provide reusable moving crates for interstate moves (well, at least not for NYC to DC). Actually, Bungo Box is close to providing this service but it does not start until a few weeks after my scheduled move. But to not let me research go to waste, below are several of the companies that I came across. Be sure to consider one of them for your next move.

For the most part, I found the price of renting reusable crates comparable to purchasing new boxes. Of course you could scrounge around for used boxes, but I have always found this to be time-consuming and gross. The sustainable benefits of using the crates are simple – the containers are reusable many times over, they can be packed heavier since they stack well, there is no tapping involved, and of course, no waste!
